a "natural" right angle

People always comment about the lack of 90 degree, or right angles in nature. Last night’s sunset either turned that rule on its head or is the exception which proves the rule!

Our motel room balcony faces West and as the sun was traversing its path through the sky (metaphorically, of course!) it was several degrees from the tree-studded horizon when I noticed a direct line of color, extending from the horizon, perpendicular to it (!) directly up into the sky. They reminded me of the lasers that point to the sky from 3 points atop the Community Christian Church by the Plaza in Kansas City, finishing Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Steeple” design in light. Except, there was only one line: to the right (north) was a darker, blue hue from the horizon to the darkest points in the heavens; to the left (south) was the typical red-orange sunset.
